Exactly! This is straight out of my old VHS collection. Great song. Yeah I remember the 4 straight wins against Quebec (11 straight wins actually). After the Habs lost the first 2 games, the Montreal papers said they should trade Patrick Roy! This seemed to fire up Roy, and then he put on a goaltending display that I think has never been duplicated. And the rest is history. It's a shame we didn't see a Habs-Leafs final that year, thanks to Kerry Fraser.

@bonorye The goalies back then were stand up because the goalies didn't play with police riot shield armor over every part of their bodies. Today all a goalie has to do is butterfly and his queen size bed goalie pads cover the net. The have blockers the size of cabinet doors and chest protectors that make them all look like Herman Munster. Put them in n ormal equipment and Bossy and Gretzky would do just fine.

You are right. He scored so many goals on shots that went five-hole, where the goalie went down and the puck went in just for that reason. These shots were low, almost right along the ice. Check out a goal he scores in Game 4 of the 83 finals against Ednonton. It's a breakaway and he simply shoots it. It seemed almost too easy.

Destroyed the Flyers in the Qtr finals. When he was In Phila,. Shero beat the B's in 1974 with Orr and knew their system. B's had a very good team in the late 70's. But If the Rangers could beat the NYI with Potvin, Trottier and Bossy, they could have beaten the B's.

I saw a Bruin video which explained this happened because they had Marcotte on LaFleur and he just kept following him when he should have come off during a change. I've been through many, many average quakes in SF, where you shrug off the tremors; it's part of the territory. Can't agree with you more, ThunderBroomSB! Last time I was in Frisco I couldn't wait to leave. The homeless situation is out of control -- very aggressive street people. Had to take refuge in a store one afternoon from a real mental case out on the street (SFPD is useless.) Let's not talk about what has happend to the warf - disgusting. I apologize (I clicked in the wrong spot). Secondly, you're absolutely right! The video you're alluding to was the ORIGINAL "12 days" video, which was aired in the 1983-84 season in the Islanders "Drive for 5" season. It did feature the Sutter bros, plus the 5th day showed only the Islanders carrying the cup (not the Oilers or Habs).

I respect the Islanders as a great team but I dont think they were the greatest dynasty. But I think Goring should be in the Hall of Fame. Theres denying he was HUGE in those 80-83 playoffs. Thats why Bill Torrey got him from the Kings in March of 1980. Tonelli no. Nystrom no. They dont have the stats. Remember Goring was a very good player with the Kings for over 10 seasons BEFORE he arrived on the Island.

I cannot understand why Butch (also Tonelli and Nystrom) is not in the HoF. All were much better 2 way players than the bigger, defensive Gainey (on my beloved Habs), and all had better numbers (in fewer games). Butch is considered the missing piece to the Isles Cup hopes. Bob is an alltime clutch playoff man, especially in overtime. All were smaller than Gainey and did the same job he did while being better offensively. There is no way any of them should be left out of the HoF.

They got Dave Lewis and Billy Harris, two players who were not bad at all, but there's no doubt the Islanders got the better of the trade. I just watched a clip of Lafleur scoring a similar goal in the 78 Finals vs. Boston. They were both elite snipers, the best of their era, & although Bossy couldn't skate as well as Guy & perhaps wasn't as flashy, I'll take Bossy over Lafleur. He was as good a playmaker, a better defensive player & had a quicker release. The stats also don't lie. Lafleur never got as many as 147 points, or 69 goals, or 84 assists in a year. Bossy did all those things. Best right winger ever is Mike Bossy.

I agree with your comment about everything accept your philosophy about shooting at the goalie. Pete Peeters was no slouch. If you look, as leadimprov said, at 0:05, Peeters has him played perfectly. Bossy put it in about the only place he could have scored.

Bossy's career +/- was +381. Yes, he was on the ice with Trottier, Potvin, Bourne, Gillies, etc., but he was no defensive liability. In this goal, the puck passes between Brodeur's blocking glove and his body. Another example of Bossy shooting AT the goalie, knowing that his shot would be centered on net, and that the goalie would probably move in some way that would open a path for the puck to enter the net.

14 teams passed on Bossy. In retrospect that's utterly astonishing. Several teams felt he would not score as much in the NHL & that he would be a defensive liability. Not only did he routinely score as many as 69 goals in a season, HE WAS NOT a defensive liability. The Isles needed a natural sniper. They were good but their's was a more defensive-minded team prior to Boss's arrival. Bossy's the kind of commodity that is simply priceless. Look at Ovechkin in Washington. They are game-changers
